Natural Disaster Preparation in the Bay Area
9/30/2019 (Permalink)
A tornado touching down in Davis, California reminds us in the Bay Area that we need to be prepared for what Mother Nature can throw at us at any moment. It is also a good reminder to review your current homeowners insurance policy. Although California doesn't often experience tornadoes, SERVPRO of Palo Alto reminds you to always be prepared. California has been impacted by tropical storms that have caused major flooding and property damage.
Here are some tips from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in order to protect your home in case of a severe storm:
- Cover all windows with precut plywood or hurricane shutters to protect from high winds.
- Keep all trees and shrubs well-trimmed.
- Turn off utilities and propane tanks as instructed.
- Ensure supply of water for sanitary purposes.
- Keep an emergency backpack available to quickly grab if you need to.
